Topic of this two day seminar is Monitoring and Evaluating Knowledge Management in Global Health Programs.
Routinely using Knowledge Management (KM) approaches can energize staff, increase effectiveness, support improved programs, and contribute to better health outcomes. As we plan for the use of KM in global health and development, our need to monitor and evaluate its effectiveness grows. The Guide to Monitoring and Evaluating Knowledge Management in Global Health Programs introduces a new KM model for global health, as well as an adaptable set of indicators to help evaluate whether KM projects, activities, and tools are effective at supporting global health and development efforts. Order Free printed copy of KM Guide today.
Objectives of the Seminar:
- Identify relevant indicators to measure KM activities
- Become familiar with the contents of The Guide to Monitoring and Evaluating Knowledge Management in Global Health Programs
The seminar facilitators and moderators are Saori Ohkubo, Sarah Harlan and Liz McLean.
Please scroll down the page to see and read relevant documents and get ready to participate in daily discussion. At the end of every day we will post a summary of daily discussion.

Many health organizations in Tanzania hardly apply this concept, not only the monitoring aspect but what i feel is the use and application of knowledge management is limited, it might be because the concept is new of there are other ways that the concept that might have been used, what are other way to describing the concept?
-
This is a common problem, Godfrey. Many people already do “knowledge management” in their work, but may not use that term! This guide offers some background about what we mean by “knowledge management” and how to apply it systematically. Understanding the concept a bit more may help people apply it systematically. I suggest you take a look at the…[Read more]

In Kenya, KM is quite a new concept to many though it has been there. However, what most people have never about is how to monitor and evaluate KM. It’s interesting how ‘the Guide’ articulates the logic model of KM which, as far as I am concerned, is the basis for monitoring and evaluating anything including KM.
-
Yes, exactly! The term “KM” may be new, but people are already doing it. We hope that this guide will help with systematizing certain KM efforts, particularly monitoring and evaluation. However, M&E will help the entire project as well if you are finding out what works along the way and changing your approach as needed. Thanks for your participation!
