Bringing Youth to the Table: Governance for Young People

Introduction to Youth Governance course

This self-paced course is designed to provide young people with information about good governance, ideas on how to engage in governance, and ways to strengthen governance skills. It will be useful for youth who already play an active governing role, especially in the health sector, but also for any young person who wants to know more about governance.

This course is divided into two modules. The first module covers the basics of governance and how youth can be involved in it; the second module provides a deeper focus on four key governing practices. Each module will take approximately an hour to an hour and a half to complete.

Goals and Objectives

The goal of this course is to strengthen young people’s governance skills and improve active involvement of young people in different governance structures.

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Know what governance is and why it’s important
  • Recognize ways youth can be involved in governance
  • Be able to implement the four practices of governance in their everyday work

Audience

This self-paced course is tailored to young people who:

  • Have an active, or are preparing for a governing role
  • Are interested in the concept of governance, or
  • Work in the health sector

Overview

The course is divided into two modules that include interactive video demonstrations and knowledge checks. The first module is designed to introduce the concept of governance and how youth can be involved in governance. The second module focuses on the four practices of governance. The full course will take approximately two to three hours to complete. A certificate will be provided for those who complete the full course.
